When I eventually retired my aforementioned laptop, I opened it up to confirm my suspicions about the GPU overheating, and it seemed that shoddy manufacturing had managed to give the heatsink a little bit of wiggle room, which i think ultimately led to its demise.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01698792164336830034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208890564265615027.post-60128874166651726942008-11-15T15:01:00.000+11:002008-11-15T15:01:00.000+11:00Replacing the GPU fixed the problem...Replacing the GPU fixed the problem...Andrew Doullhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11099404183952971291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208890564265615027.post-78002116279967832652008-11-09T11:11:00.000+11:002008-11-09T11:11:00.000+11:00Thanks for the advice. I've already had the GPU replaced once in this laptop due to overheating problems and believe this is due to the build problems found in this particular machine's Nvidia chipset. I've just gone back and tested a number of other games (e.g. Half Life 2) which were running fine, and they now show the same glitches.Andrew Doullhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11099404183952971291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208890564265615027.post-67268581185161299332008-11-08T21:30:00.000+11:002008-11-08T21:30:00.000+11:00I used to get this in lots of games on my desktop....I used to get this in lots of games on my desktop. Taking the side of the case off helped with cooling and made things better for a while.Broghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14185464573529387638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2208890564265615027.post-83521538173983735092008-11-08T10:23:00.000+11:002008-11-08T10:23:00.000+11:00I had the same problem in my laptop and drivers ne...I had the same problem in my laptop and drivers never corrected it. It ended up being a case of my video card dying slowly. I ended up getting a big cooling fan which helped a bit at first but the glitches would slowly creep in until the game was unplayable and I shutdown until the thing cooled off.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01698792164336830034noreply@blogger.com
