There are more impressive examples of ASCII games coming out from this year's batch of DigiPen students, including full color animated video, real-time arcade games with ASCII-based sprites, and other craziness. As an upperclassman here, I feel humbled and disgusted (in a good way) at how amazing some of their work has been, and how much it makes our work look bad in comparison.
I've just checked the DigiPen website, and unfortunately there aren't yet any examples of Freshman text-based games from this year up for public viewing. It's a real shame, because some of the stuff there is just astounding. It's pretty amazing what programmers who love graphics can do when they're forced to use ASCII.
If I was worried about the things that people much smarter than me were doing, I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning...
