Quietly optimistic

Google Plus sounds like the thing I have been asking for. Unfortunately, I'm not on there yet, but I'll let you know when I am and what I think...

  1. Honestly, I don't know if invites are still necessary (I've been on a vacation for the past two weeks and still have to catch up), but if you want, I could invite you. I love your blog and would like to see you on G+.

  2. I think the invite restriction has been lifted. I was able to register without any hassle a couple days ago.

  5. Yes. I was thinking of that blog post of yours when I first started using G+ two weeks ago. :-)

  6. I guess the two immediate reactions are:

    1. Why is Buzz a separate page from my posts?

    2. Oh, all those photos from Picasa are public, huh...

  7. Thanks for all the invites, btw.

  8. So how are people organising circles? Is it a 'how do I know this person' or a 'what do I think this person will be interested in?'...

  9. Hi.

I'm organizing circles based on both "what they say" and "what I want them to know".

That is, I use the Friends and Family circles for sharing, and then I have a few circles for listening. You got placed in the "Computer Games" circle along with other dignitaries.

I also half way started to use circles as labels, tagging people with language, perceived interests and connection... but that quickly got out of hand.

There is no need to follow back anyone who follow you, still I have a circle for people who follow me out of the blue - I'm probably only being followed on the grounds that I was pretty early on in Norway, and thus in the circles of many. I prefer to follow people, see if they say anything interesting and then drop them later on if not (I've not yet found the time for that part).

(This is probably the tl; dr point)

Existing albums on Picasa won't have their permissions changed - unless you (after the G+ merge) share images from it or tag people.

Peoples tagged in images on Picasa get the ability to share *The whole album* that image was in.

Images uploaded through G+ is shared with the people who can see the post they were a part of, these people can re-share those images/album.

  10. Well, looks like a bunch of people beat me to giving you an invite.

  11. Thanks - I realise the Picasa albums were all shared already - it just reminded me that I had to secure them a bit better :)

I've seen a couple of good summaries about G+ to the effect it lacks integration with all the other services Google offers. I already blog through blogger, read stuff through reader and so on. I suspect I'm getting involved in interesting conversations on G+ at the moment because it's fresh and new and shiny...

But I'm finding little things, like if you share a story someone else has written, the comments don't get shared *even if the original story was public*, that don't quite work the way I want them to.

Jury is still out this early on.

  12. Hope you're leaving feedback with your concerns. Changes are being made weekly, sometimes daily, in response to user feedback.

Remember, you need an invite because this is in the "Field Test" phase and still under heavy development.

  13. I'd love to give feedback, but English (UK) isn't a supported language for providing feedback :)

I'm serious. Try hitting https://www.google.com/support/+/bin/request.py?&hl= with an English (UK) browser...
