Yeah, it sure is an odd phenomenon.

The roguelike-relevant MLP crossovers are not limited to this *band - there was also a MLP Dwarf Fortress mod and public forum game played using it.
Essentially by this point in the fandom's development, if a popular game exists, it also exists in pony-enhanced form.
I don't think the phenomenon is entirely baffling though - the new generation of cartoons really is good, adult-friendly stuff.
