I'm not going to get the runner up details together for a little while, but Darren Grey made the intriguing suggestion that the roguelikes which get between 10-100 votes are the most interesting. With that in mind, and with the assistance of Joseph Bradshaw who has converted the results to a spreadsheet for further analysis (TBD by another volunteer if you want to help out), I'd like to present 'The most interesting roguelikes of the year 2013' as a unicorn chaser.

Now *that* is a great list. Everyone, go play these games, they're excellent little titles that are hugely underappreciated.
ReplyDeleteThis does run the gauntlet and gambit pretty deftly for the most part---good mix of up-and-coming alongside seasoned projects to boot.
ReplyDeleteA pity that Pixel Dungeon didn't make it due to having two votes too many. I recommend it, it's not perfect (a bit too unbalanced at the moment) but great :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, One Way Heroics is the revelation of the year. And Kerkerkruip is a must-play.
Elona+, while not included in the "Below 100 votes", is still a great roguelike. Definitely recommending it to those who have yet to play it.
ReplyDeleteAl-Khwarizimi: I feel guilty about all those 102 vote roguelikes...
ReplyDeleteGreat list...but I forsee next year ADOM and TOME trying to get into the top of the 100 votes range :P
ReplyDeleteDude good call. Dungeonmans, PRIME, Unbrogue, 868-hack...great games not played enough.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I just went to the Dungeonmans site but there is no download?
ReplyDeleteDrakefire Chasm and Forays into Norrendrin... Two great roguelikes !
ReplyDeleteTallied up the top ten.
ReplyDelete1) Tales of Maj'Eyal
2) ADOM
3) Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead
4) ADOM II
5) Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup
6) UnReal World
7) DoomRL
8) Brogue
9) Dungeons of Dredmor
10) Rogue Legacy
cyberklown: You appear to have listed 2nd to 11th.
ReplyDeleteAnd please don't pretend it was just Noxico votes that are invalid. As discussed on reddit, it appears ADOM and ToME may have also been using bots - although there is no hard evidence - just the sudden increase in rate of voting.
The only other hard numbers I have is based on referrals, which actually puts ToME 3rd, behind ADOM and Cataclysm. However as Dark God points out, referrals only captures one path people may have been coming to the poll via.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to see everything in order I posted it here.
For the ones outside the Top 10, I'd guess X@COM, Pixel Dungeon, and Infra Arcana have the best chance to surge in te next year or two to make the top ten. X@COM is very alpha rght now, yet it got a lot of votes. Pixel Dungeon blows away everything on android, very easy to play on a touch screen, and it improves constantly. Infra Arcana is just neat.
ReplyDeleteI knew Wayward would still be #1 in some other way, haha. Just kidding. Awesome list!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the two 868x games could have been merged in the list to avoid clutter. Same could be said for 3079 & 3089.
