Verbal Spew is already declaring 2008 to be the Year of the Roguelike, based on the announcement that Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon will be released later on this year for the Wii in the US.
I'd argue that every year is, but I'm happy for the suggestion...

Actually, not just because of CMD, but also because of Shiren, Baroque, Pokemon MD2, and hopefully Izuna 2 and Shiren 3. That's really quite a lot for one year.
I haven't heard of Baroque... but you're right. That's a lot of commercial roguelikes.
To hell with Chocobo Mystery Dungeon.
The problem with the Mystery Dungeon games is that so many of them really aren't that good. Even the very first one, the original Torneko, isn't really great. The Shiren series is the shining exception, unencumbered with licenses or anything except sharp, lethal monsters and well-designed items just strong enough to take care of them.
